iOS/Android 9.0

August 20, 2025

iBroadcast version 9.0 for iOS and Android is available now! This update includes an expansion of our audio quality settings to automatically adjust for variable network speeds, better support for previously unplayable files, and other highly requested features.

1. Automatic audio quality setting. The mobile app now supports “Auto” audio quality, also known as adaptive bitrate, which automatically adjusts playback to the highest quality that your network can support without interruptions. “Auto” may be a good option if your network connection tends to vary while you’re enjoying your music. To enable it, go to Profile > Settings > Audio Quality and choose “Auto” when streaming on cellular or wifi.

2. Unsupported original files will now play in the nearest supported bitrate. Similar to our recent web update, the mobile app will now convert unsupported original files to another playable format to prevent any unnecessary disruptions to your streaming experience. Previously, Premium users who had playback quality set to “Original” could experience issues if the original file was in a format that isn’t natively supported by the app, such as ALAC (Apple Lossless) files on Android. Now, even if your streaming preferences are set to Original, the system will automatically detect unsupported files and convert them to the closest available bitrate, such as 320 Kbps.

3. Moved the Sleep Timer and My Devices to the Full Screen Player. We’ve moved the Sleep Timer and My Devices from Settings to the Full Screen Player for easier access with fewer steps. The Sleep Timer (alarm clock icon) is above the progress bar, whereas My Devices will now show the device you’re currently playing to at the bottom of the screen. Tap it to bring up the full Devices menu. To remove either of these from the Full Screen Player, go to Profile > Settings > Library > Player Buttons to customize which buttons will appear.

4. (Android-only) Search for tracks inside any track list. The Android app now has the same functionality to search for a track inside any track list, such as a playlist or album. To access the search bar from inside a playlist or album, simply pull down from the top of the screen to bring it into view. This feature is especially useful for those with very long playlists who want to easily find a track without scrolling.

We hope you enjoy these updates, and please let us know what you think!

Full release notes are below:

  • Adaptive bitrate (“Auto” audio quality)
  • Fall back to closest bitrate for unsupported original formats
  • Moved Sleep Timer to the full screen player
  • Layout changes to the full screen player
  • Playlist search now searches the contents of playlist folders
  • (Android) Changing the album name in Edit Track no longer adds the artist name
  • (Android) Search for tracks inside any track list
  • (Android) Fixed an issue syncing Shuffle and Repeat with full screen player and Android Auto
  • (Android) Fixed an issue clearing multi-select after use
  • (Android) Fixed issue displaying artwork when an artist artwork is missing
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements

Web Player Update

August 19, 2025

We've made some updates to the web player! This release contains some highly-requested features, including bulk editing and support for additional streaming bitrates, even for file formats that were previously unsupported. Read on for more details!

1. Bulk editing is here! After our legacy editor was phased out, many of you requested the addition of a bulk editing feature to allow you to make changes to your library on a larger scale and with greater flexibility. The new bulk editing feature allows you to edit multiple tracks or albums at once using the same right click > edit track (or album) flow.

To select multiple consecutive tracks, hold down "Shift", or to select non-consecutive tracks, hold down Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows), then right click, and select "Edit Tracks". This will open a window similar to the single Edit Track window that you’re familiar with, but changing the values will make changes to all of the selected tracks at once. You can use this feature to edit the title, artist, album, release year, genre, track number, or replay gain of all of the tracks.

To edit multiple albums at once, follow the same steps while clicking on album containers. You can update album metadata in bulk, including the name, album artist, disc number, or release year.

2. Additional streaming bitrate options. Additional streaming bitrates have long been available in the mobile apps, but until now, the web player has only supported streaming in either 128 Kbps or Original Quality. Now, you can additionally choose to stream in 96, 192, 256, or 320 Kbps, or in "Auto", which will automatically choose the optimal bitrate for your internet speed to provide the most seamless streaming experience.

To set your preferred streaming bitrate, go to Settings, and under Audio Quality, adjust the slider next to "Streaming". This option is only available to Premium users, as the standard membership only supports streaming in 128 Kbps.

3. Unsupported original files will now play in the nearest supported bitrate. Premium users have the option to set their playback quality to "Original", which will play the original file that is uploaded to iBroadcast. However, this could sometimes cause problems if the original file was in a format that isn't natively supported by their browser. Common cases included ALAC (Apple Lossless) files outside of the Apple environment, such as on a Windows computer or in any browser other than Safari, among other examples. To address this issue, we've made an update that will convert unsupported files to another format and play them in the closest available bitrate, such as 360 Kbps if the original file was in high or lossless quality. Even if your streaming preferences are set to Original, the system will automatically detect the unsupported files and convert them into a playable alternative format to prevent any unnecessary disruptions to your streaming experience.

4. Added a list view option anywhere where there was only previously a tile view. For those who prefer lists to tiles when viewing their library, we’ve added a switch to toggle between list and tile view on library subsections such as Albums, Playlists, Genres, Artists. Tile view is still available by default for those who enjoy seeing the artwork as you browse, but list view can help save space on the page and make browsing quicker! To switch between views, click the list/tile switch on the top right of the page.

We hope you enjoy these updates, and please let us know what you think!

Full release notes are below:

  • Bulk editing; select multiple tracks or albums, right click > edit
  • Support for additional streaming bitrates
  • Fall back to nearest bitrate for unsupported original file formats
  • Added list view/tile view switch to containers
  • Bug fixes and UI improvements

New Premium Feature: Download Library with Updated Metadata

May 15, 2025

We recently rolled out one of our most highly-requested features to date—the ability to download your iBroadcast library with updated metadata!

A new setting is now available that allows you to re-download your entire library, or any portion of it, to your local device with metadata that reflects any edits you've made within iBroadcast. This feature is available exclusively to Premium users as part of our ongoing effort to provide powerful, flexible tools for managing your music your way.

Previously, files could only be redownloaded in the original state they were uploaded in. Now, with this setting enabled, any changes you've made within iBroadcast—such as updated track names, artist info, or cover art—can be included when you download your files!

This is especially useful for users who maintain a local backup of their library and want their offline files to stay in sync with the updates made in iBroadcast. You can still access your original uploads if preferred, but now, you have a choice!

The setting can be found on the website under:
Settings > Library Settings > Download Updated Metadata

iOS/Android 8.9

March 24, 2025

iBroadcast version 8.9 is now available for both iOS and Android! In this update, we are excited to unveil our comprehensive Audio Quality control center. This long-awaited Premium feature includes for more granular audio quality controls to give you ultimate customizability of your listening experience. Version 8.9 also brings improved support for FLAC files, more visibility for Premium features, and numerous bug fixes. Read on for more details!

1. More granular audio quality controls. The Audio Quality control settings can be found in a new dedicated section under Profile > Settings > Audio Quality.

Here, Premium users can change the playback quality for your tracks, depending on how you are listening. For example, if you want to choose a lower bitrate for streaming on cellular data, and a higher bitrate for streaming on wifi, you can adjust between 96 Kbps-320 Kbps, or original quality. Similarly, you can select the bitrate for your downloaded tracks, as well as set the bitrate for playback on other devices, including Sonos, Chromecast, and Alexa.

Additionally, the "Streaming Only" setting has been renamed to "Download Tracks When Played" and moved to this section. When this setting is off (default), the app will not automatically download tracks as they are played -- they will only stream. However, turning this on can be useful for reducing data usage, because your most played tracks will already be downloaded, available, and ready to play on iBroadcast at your preferred playback quality without needing to stream them.

Free tier users also have access to the setting to automatically download and save tracks upon playback, but only at the standard bitrate of 128 Kbps.

2. Local player FLAC support. The app now has improved support for FLAC files allowing them to stream and download faster. Multi-channel FLAC files will now also sound more accurate on stereo outputs.

3. Show download buttons setting. Download buttons are now hidden by default to avoid repetitiveness (but the icon to show that a track is downloaded is still present!) You can still download tracks by long pressing and selecting "Download Track" from the context menu. However, if you prefer to have the old view where download buttons were always shown by default, you can revert back to it by turning on "Show Download Buttons" within Library settings.

In the example, "Show Download Buttons" is enabled, the top three tracks have been downloaded, and the rest are not yet downloaded.

4. Setting to customize "Tap Artwork to Play". Previously, tapping the artwork for a playlist or album was a shortcut for instantly playing that collection with one tap, whereas tapping its name would open up a list view of the tracks. Taking into account some user feedback, we’ve now changed it so that tapping either the artwork or the name both open the list view by default, and "Tap Artwork to Play" is now a Library setting that is off by default.

5. Some settings renamed and reorganized. A few settings were renamed or moved to be better put into context. In Library settings, Display Tracks has been renamed to Track Visibility, and Track Subtitle is now Track Appearance. Show Artwork Next to Tracks has been moved into Track Appearance, and Audio Quality has been moved into its own section in the main Settings page.

6. Numerous bug fixes. Because it has been some time since our last major release, this update includes various bug fixes and performance improvements for both platforms. Notably, on iOS, an issue with Siri voice commands has been addressed, as well as an issue that caused tracks to sometimes not start from the beginning.

On Android, several Chromecast issues have been addressed, including better handling of connection stability problems. An issue displaying artwork on the home screen has been fixed, Additional Artist info will now display on the Full Screen Player, non-square artwork will now display in its original aspect ratio. An issue with bookmarked tracks sometimes not starting from where they left off was fixed, and search by tag is now available, and more.
