Using iBroadcast with Amazon Alexa
This guide will show you how to get the most out of using Alexa with iBroadcast.
Frustration Free Tips
- Because Amazon is not currently allowing new default music services with Alexa, it is best to use the skill name and give it a command at the same time to make sure the command goes to the iBroadcast skill. We have found that using the following convention will give you the most consistant results, "Alexa, tell iBroadcast to play tracks by (artist name)" or, "Alexa, tell iBroadcast to play the album (album name)", etc.
- You must first link the Alexa skill with your iBroadcast account. Do this with the Alexa app
- You must launch the skill each time you want to "do something" even if Alexa is already playing music from iBroadcast. Except for:
- "Alexa, next song"
- "Alexa, previous song"
- "Alexa, turn shuffle mode on"
- "Alexa, turn shuffle mode off"
- "Alexa, turn loop on" (loops the current playing song)
- "Alexa, turn loop off"
- "Alexa, pause"
- "Alexa, stop"
- "Alexa, start over" (restarts the current playing song immediately)
Some commands/intents need the skill name specified first.
- "Alexa, ask iBroadcast to turn on repeat mode" (turns on repeat play queue, so playback starts over when the queue is finished)
- "Alexa, ask iBroadcast to turn off repeat mode"
- "Alexa, ask iBroadcast what song is playing"
Launch the Skill
You must first "launch" the skill. The skill will then ask you what you want to hear and you can then give it a command. Remember, you must always "launch" the skill before giving it a command, even if Alexa is already playing music from your iBroadcast library. You can also combine commands/intents too.
- "Alexa, launch iBroadcast"
- "Alexa, open iBroadcast"
- "Alexa, start iBroadcast"
- "Alexa, launch iBroadcast and play playlist [ playlist name ]"
Play Queue
There is a persistant play queue of songs kept for Alexa. When you exit the skill, that queue is kept and you can resume it when you launch the skill again. You can also use our mobile apps and our website to modify and set up your play queue, look under the "devices" section on the side menu. Then you can just tell Alexa to first "Alexa, Launch iBroadcast" and then "Resume play".
Playlists
- "Play playlist [ playlist name ]"
- "Start playlist [ playlist name ]"
Albums
- "Play album [ album name ]"
- "Play soundtrack [ album name ]"
Artists
- "Play artist [ artist name ]"
- "Play tracks by [ artist name ]"
- "Play songs by [ artist name ]"
- "Play music by [ artist name ]"
Genres
- "Play genre [ genre name ]"
Song
- "Play song [ song name ]"
- "Play song [ song name ] by [ artist name ]"
Miscellaneous
- "Shuffle my library" (this will pick 500 random songs from your library and shuffle them)
- "Resume" and "Resume play" (this will resume playing the songs which are already in the queue)
- "What are my playlists" (will list all your playlists, you can interrupt Alexa by saying "Alexa, stop")
- "What are my genres" (will list all your genres, you can interrupt Alexa by saying "Alexa, stop")
- "Play [ name ]" (if you say this, the skill will then ask you if [ name ] is a song, artist, album, playlist or genre)
